What is GST Migration Procedure and Reference to New Website ?

Goods and Service Tax (GST) is a tax reform we all are eagerly waiting for, to happen. With roll out of GST all the indirect taxes will be clubbed into one. To get enrolled under GST you need to migrate from the present central or state tax you are registered under. GST Migration Procedure, All the existing taxpayers have to mandatorily migrate to GST.

The migration process is very simple and will be done online. www.gst.gov.in is the portal on which GST migration is to be done. Every individual whose annual turnover is more than ₹20 lacs must register under GST. The process of migration is as follows:

Procure Provisional ID

To migrate to GST first you need to obtain provisional ID and password to login with GST portal. The provisional ID will be made available to taxpayers at their respective sales tax or State VAT wards. If you are not registered with VAT department but only with service tax, then you can obtain your provisional ID by logging on to www.aces.gov.in.

Once you have obtained your provisional ID and password, visit GST portal to register yourself. As mentioned above migration will be completely paperless. Log-in using the ID password. Now fill in the details as asked. You'll need to enter your bank details along with registered mobile number and e-mail. The documents required to complete the process are:

  • Proof of existence of business: You'll have to submit copy of gumasta/ partnership deed/ certificate of incorporation as proof of constitution of business.
  • Photographs: Passport size photographs of owner/ partners/ promoters must be submitted.
  • Authorized signatory: In case of partnership and company, the proof of a partner/ director having signing authority must be submitted. You have to submit partnership deed/ minutes of board meeting along with passport photograph of the signing authority.
  • Proof of bank details: Submit first page of bank statement/ passbook along with statement of last 6 months to validate bank details.

After submitting all the details you will receive an acknowledgement number which you must write down. You can use this to track application status and even for future correspondences.
